about

history

uncovering the past

Tucked away in old town Bothell, a walkable neighborhood teaming with local art, culture and food, the artfully handcrafted krō bär has been reclaimed from the bones of Bothell’s historic hardware store in the Mohn building. The 16-foot-high tin ceilings, a hanging cat walk and the original wood floors were uncovered and restored.

The krō bär is an eclectic bar with a speakeasy vibe and a passion for spirits that nods to another era. There are a couple of local beers on tap, but the atmosphere at krō bär is inarguably one that is conducive to craft cocktails & wine. For a place this small, a menu of more than 25 gins is impressive. Feeling adventurous? Ask the mixologist to make you something to fit your mood. The krō bär provides a connection between fine spirits, food and friendly faces.

it began with a napkin

The krō bär brand was developed to recognize the epic nightly migration of nearly 16,0000 crows to Bothell while giving a whimsical nod to the historic roots of the original hardware store in the Mohn building.
As a side note the definition of a Kro bar - is a public house, gathering place, a village pub in Danish.

The krō bär brand and interior design was a family collaboration to bring Scott's vision to life. Thanks to engineer father James and graphic artist sister Kristi, cake artist and partner of 24 yrs Brenda, as well as their daughter Quincy who sketched the logo on a napkin in 2018 at age 8.

scott coulter

owner - principal

A byproduct of Scott’s extensive travels across the globe for work in the tech industry is that he gets to immerse himself in a vast array of culinary experiences and indulge his passion for imbibing fine spirits in discrete locations.

His entrepreneurial spirit peaked when an opportunity arose on Main Street - in Bothell, WA - just down the road from his home. The dream to build a local bar began.

Scott's vision for the perfect craft cocktail bar included fresh, real ingredients, great service, top shelf offerings, and inventive, artistic, authentic drinks with a welcoming staff. A lot had to do with the environment: The feeling of being carried to another time, getting lost in a space, being treated well, paid attention to - but left alone just enough. Intimate, moody, and unpretentious. Something to talk about while leaving you anxious to come back, wanting to tell your friends, yet wanting to keep the secret to yourself…. krō bär will surprise you.

Scott hopes all will enjoy his nostalgic creativity, and desire for damn good drinks and delicious food.
